Brown Bag Lunch Series

This lunchtime lecture series brings together international and Graz-based academics, providing a hub for interdisciplinary discussion and exchange. Students are provided with sandwiches and drinks as well as plenty of food for thought. With this series, all participants are encouraged to cross disciplinary boundaries and to think out of the (lunch) box.

Students' Perspective

Enesa Mujezinovic studying English at the University of Graz

I think the most important thing that I have learned in this lecture series so far is that the topic of “intersectionality” is very diverse.

There is also a lot of practical knowledge because all the speakers present their own research topics to us and they show us their research so far on a certain topic. I like the presentations because they are very lively and well-structured. I also liked the length of the presentations; they are not too long and not too short. What makes this lecture series special is, first of all, the food and the drinks. We have more incentive to come to this lecture, if catering is provided. And of course the international atmosphere also makes this series special. If I had to describe this class in three words, they would be energetic, motivational, and fun because Roberta [Maierhofer] makes a lot of jokes.

Katharina Zwanzger studying English at the University of Graz

We have only had a few sessions so far but what I like is that we discuss theoretical concepts, for example, key concepts such as “subjectivity“ and “identity,” and that we learn how to apply them. What makes this lecture series special? First of all, I like the brown bag lunches! It is very nice to be provided with sandwiches and soft drinks. I think the BBL contributes to the students‘ motivation. The idea of such a BBL is very interesting and unique. Inviting guest speakers who introduce different topics and points of view is a great contribution to the seminar. If I had to describe this class in three words, they would be interesting, informative and delicious.
