Interview about key characteristics of the US-American entrepreneurial spirit

Before the current pandemic affected our everyday lives, the Center for Inter-American Studies had the great pleasure and honor to welcome the U.S. Ambassador to Austria, Trevor D. Traina. In an interview, Ambassador Traina, a successful serial entrepreneur, elucidated the key characteristics of the American entrepreneurial spirit in contemporary and historical contexts. Setting American entrepreneurism in dialog with Styrian business acumen, which is the main objective of the ongoing interdisciplinary research project "Interpreneurship: Styria meets the USA" (funded by the Land Steiermark, Referat Wissenschaft und Forschung), the ambassador observed that entrepreneurs do not work in a cultural vacuum, and for him Styria "is reminiscent a bit of northern California," his home state. This goes to show that the humanities, and (Inter-)American Studies in particular, have much to offer when it comes to the study and practice of entrepreneurship across borders.
