On November 10th, 2016 Professor Ulla Kriebernegg of the Center for Inter-American Studies was honored with the Award for Teaching Excellence of the Karl-Franzens-Universität Graz. Students had nominated her for her seminar “Ladies, Start your Engines!” which explored the intersectional and intercultural implications of women drivers in the context of the Road Movie genre. In the seminar students were able to discuss actively and enthusiastically relevant concerns of our time with international guest speakers. In a competition, the emphasis of which lay on teaching methods that took the classes outside of university facilities into all different corners of the earth with the intention of making cultural connections more readily visible, the award went to a truly excellent educator and scholar, with the exceptional skill to bring internationalization home to her students and her seminar. Congratulations!
