Older Haitian sugarcane workers in the Dominican Republic face severe barriers
to accessing pensions despite decades of labor. Systemic violations of labor and
documentation rights, compounded by discriminatory laws and institutional
racism, perpetuate social exclusion. This talk explores lived experiences of older
workers, revealing how bureaucratic inefficiencies and a lack of political will deny
pensions, forcing them into precarious conditions to survive.
