GUSEGG Publication: Call for Papers

The Graz International Summer School Seggau 2022 offered a discussion of how measurements inform our lives, as individuals and as a society. Personal and political decisions are often based on numbers and their interpretation. In times of immense data collection and digitalization of information, numbers influence how individuals interact with each other and how social structures determine these interactions. Even before the Covid-19 pandemic, our societies had already become “digital by default” (Hill, Betts & Gardner 2015). GUSEGG 2022 addressed the pressing questions of how our lives are influenced by numbers, how our online and offline actions and interactions are being measured, calculated, and counted, by ourselves and others, and what this means for states, societies, and our understanding of the world. In order to examine strategies and methods to meet the challenges of our times, this summer school publication aims at engaging in academic contemplation and interdisciplinary exchange about our datafied world. Therefore, the tenth edition of the open-access publication Off Campus: Seggau School of Thought will invite contributions dealing with the following topics based on the GUSEGG 2022 seminar topics:

- Narratives in Archives
- Media Archeology: Private and Public
- From Pancakes to Donuts: Economic Models
- Narrative Didactics as Re-Measurement
- Aging Masculinities and a Datified World
- Re-Measuring Emotions / Re-Calculating Knowledge

Abstracts of 300 words for chapter proposals should be submitted to nicole.haring@unigraz.at by November 6, 2022. Please include a short biography of 100 words or less. We
ask for your finished chapters of max 6.500 words including references by January 8, 2023. There will be a double-blind peer reviewed process and the volume will be published by unipub UB Graz (Open Access).
