They are early risers, long fot the good old days, and listen to Radio Steiermark: society has a very clear image of what makes old people tick. But researchers of the "Aging Studies" working group headed by Roberta Maierhofer are convinced that this image is culturally constructed, rather than biologically founded. Thus, they study how stereotypes influence people's perception and behaviour. PhD student Barbara Ratzenböck investigates how women over sixty use modern communication technologies at the point of transitioning from working life to retirement, an interesting topic, as senior's handling of new media is subject to a multitude of prejudices. Her research is embedded in the international "InheritAGE" working group and the "European Network in Aging Studies."
