Celebration of Hermine Penz's Retirement
To mark Hermine Penz's retirement, we would like to honor her with a celebratory event. It would be a great pleasure for us to celebrate this special occasion together with Hermine's colleagues, friends, and companions, and we therefore extend a warm invitation to you!
The event will focus on Hermine's long-standing academic work, particularly her significant contribution to establishing ecolinguistics, a field she significantly shaped in Graz together with the recently deceased Alwin Fill. To honor her pivotal role in ecolinguistics, three guests from the International Ecolinguistics Association will give short presentations. Furthermore, Hermine's achievements in teaching and university engagement will be recognized, including her many years as a professor of linguistics and her work as chair of curriculum committees at the Faculty of Humanities. Her roles at the European level, such as chair of the European Centre for Modern Languages in Austria, as well as her involvement in numerous Erasmus+ projects, will also be highlighted during the ceremony, underscoring her lasting influence on applied linguistics.
Please register with email to eva.bauer@uni-graz.at or via the online form.

Recommendation: Introduction to the African Studies
The “Introduction to African Studies” programme offered by the African Science Hub Graz (ASH Graz) addresses a structural gap at the University of Graz, where African Studies have not yet been institutionally established as an independent field of study. At the same time, in an increasingly interconnected world, there is growing academic and public interest in engaging with the African continent in a more differentiated and forward‑looking way.
