“Art and Cosmovision of the Shipibo-Konibo”

The Shipibo-Konibo are an indigenous people of the Peruvian Amazon living along the Ucayali River. They emerged from the merger of the formerly separate Shipibo ("monkey people") and Konibo ("fish people") groups and today live as a single community. They subsist primarily on agriculture, fishing, and utilizing the forest. Their traditional way of life is characterized by subsistence farming and the sale of handicrafts.
Laida Mori Silvano is a representative of the Shipibo-Konibo indigenous people. She was born in 1975 in the indigenous community of Patria Nueva-Callería, Pucallpa, Peru.
