Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that.
Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.
Dr. Martin Luther King
With a sad heart we have to announce today that Prof. Helen Kivnick has passed away on the afternoon of September 14, 2020. Having taught at and been part of the Graz International Summer School Seggau (GUSEGG) 2015, we want to acknowledge Prof. Kivnick as a scholar and teacher who inspired many students in her seminar on “Narratives of Age and the Life Course”, and was an enrichment to the GUSEGG professors and lecturers.
Helen Kivnick was a Professor at the University of Minnesota. Her main research interest was the psychosocial development through the life cycle, with a special emphasis on promoting healthy development in childhood and later life, on understanding healthy development in the face of adversity, on healthy development in an ecological context, and on intergenerational relations, vital involvement practice (strengths-based long-term care practice for frail elders), as well as life cycle therapy, psychological health, culture, and the arts, psychosocial health, social justice, and human relations.
Helen will be missed as a mentor, colleague, and friend!
