ACTipedia is a collaborative action research project coordinated by the research consortium ACT – Ageing, Communication, Technologies (Concordia University, Montreal). This project means to widen the scope of the discourses circulating in Wikipedia, to include ageing as a cultural, social and political phenomenon, and not just as a biological “fact.” Since the beginning of the project, ACTipedia created and modified over 30 entries in English and French.
In addition to English and French, ACTipedia aims at also creating and modifying Wikipedia entries on age and aging in other languages. Thus, the ACTipedia workshop held on February 8, 2016 will offer the opportunity to edit Wikipedia entries in German. At the beginning of the workshop basics of Wikipedia editing will be discussed before actively editing entries on the topic of age and aging. At the end of the workshop there will be a discussion about aging and online inclusion\exclusion.
The workshop is led by ACT researchers Maude Gauthier und Shannon Hebblethwaite (Concordia University, Montreal). The Center for Inter-American Studies of the University of Graz which is also part of the ACT consortium acts as the local coordinator of the event.
