“The Resistance of the Xukuru People”
Alice Melo & Hana Gouveia
The Xukuru people live in the Serra do Ororubá, in the state of Pernambuco in northeastern Brazil, and today number around 12,000 to 14,000 members across more than 20 village communities. Since the Portuguese colonial era, the Xukuru have fought for the recognition and return of their ancestral lands - a struggle that continues to this day.
Alice Melo (online) and Hana Gouveia are Xukuru women. They will speak about the history and present-day reality of the Xukuru people (Brazil).
