On September 15, 2021, five of the seven Central American Republics will celebrate the 200th anniversary of their independence (bicentenario) from the Spanish Crown in 1821. The multidimensionality of the process requires a profound and interdisciplinary review, because of the premise that the process of political emancipation was complex and had multiple effects for the historical development in a cultural and ethnic enormous heterogeneous region. To commemorate the 200th anniversary of the Central American independency we want to invite in October 2021 a group of 25 to 28 experts, historians, anthropologists, and political scientists, to Vienna and Graz. The colloquium seeks to bring together internationally recognized academics as well as young researchers, to reflect on the global, international, and transnational perspectives on Central American independency and its impact until today. This means including Central and Latin American visions, motivations, and perspectives in the face of changes that transcend their effects on the societies in the region today. Above all, the event seeks increase the knowledge about the history of Latin America in general and about Central America in particular in Austria. The event is organized threw a cooperation between the University of Vienna and the University of Graz and will be held between October 14-16, 2021.
