(Post-)Doc-Projects

Current postdoc projects

Men Provide, Women Care? Reflections on the Significance of Socio-Cultural Constructions of the Sex Binary for Identity Constructions of Older German Men (Lisa-Nike Bühring)

New Christians and Jews in the early modern Caribbean region. People, goods, trade flows (Christian Cwik)

The intensive support of young scientists is given top priority at the Center for Inter-American Studies (C.IAS) at the University of Graz. Many C.IAS research and educational projects therefore provide positions for (post-)doctoral students. In this way, young researchers are given the opportunity to work in a team under excellent professional leadership and financial security while at the same time sharpening their own profile.

In addition, the C.IAS seeks scholarships for (post-)doctoral students. Doctoral student Nicole Haring, for example, can currently support the work of the C.IAS through a junior fellowship from the Elisabeth-List-Fellowship Program for Gender Studies and at the same time work on her dissertation on “Gender images and understandings of femininity and masculinity in the field of education”.

In order to meet the objective of the University of Graz's "excellent qualifications for young scientists" and the general Austrian goal of "Profiling of universities" the C.IAS is planning to work together with qualified representatives from various institutes in the humanities, social sciences and law Faculty to set up its own doctoral program in order to train and supervise doctoral students at the University of Graz who are working on a wide range of topics relating to the Western Hemisphere (North America, South America, Central America and the Caribbean) in a structured manner, as well as to promote (interdisciplinary) exchange between students to promote. As part of this, we are also considering setting up an annual international doctoral seminar to enable young scientists to present their research projects in an appropriate setting and at the same time to promote exchanges with top-class scientists and doctoral students from other countries.
